Black Knob Stemac on TradeMe

You don't see 'em very often, but a Stemac Robbiati model has been offered on New Zealand's TradeMe site with a black steamer knob. The machine looks a little bit tired around the badge, but otherwise very tidy, and the relative rarity of the knob should make it interesting for a collector.

At a rough guess, I would say that 98% of all Atomics that change hands have the classical deep red steamer knob. Early Sassoon models often had light blue or light red knobs (these were slightly smaller in diameter than the "standard" model). The American La Sorrentina (the original ones!) sometimes had an emerald green, but these are fairly rare. Black knobs and yellow knobs are also out there, also fairly rare.

This is the first Atomic I've seen with a black steamer knob. And all the enamel-finish Atomics I've seen have red steamer knobs. It would be good to have some pics of these other variants.

OK- I was a bit wrong- I checked my collection, and: it is only the red painted Atomics that have the black knob. Mr Nakos put forward a theory some time back that this is because the classic burgundy knob doesn't go well with the red paint- a theory to which I currently ascribe...
I have 4 painted Atomics in the collection- and both the red ones have the black knob. The orange/brown ones have the normal red knob. so there it is, I will send a picture soon, regards,
Jack

Hello, I just bought an Atomic coffee maker on ebay. It is exactly as you describe here - Stemac branded with black knobs on both of the steam controls. Star shaped pattern on grains holder. The photo on the ad was not of the actual item and didn't show the second steam control or the brand so I was pretty pleased when it turned up. Wondering if you know when the Stemac makers were built? Is this a particularly collectable one?
